
Nicky Buckley
Director for Fellowships and Networks, Centre for Science and Policy & Project Lead, Evidence Exchange
Nicky manages Fellowships and Networks at the Centre for Science and Policy (CSaP) and leads the Evidence Exchange national consortium, funded by ESRC, to expand access for civil and public servants to university-led learning and exchange opportunities. She directs CSaP’s Policy Fellowships team, develops academic networks, and supports researchers in planning policy engagement.
In 2022–23, Nicky was seconded to the UK Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology to support Select Committees in engaging with the academic community. She co-leads the Areas of Research Interest programme for the Universities Policy Engagement Network (UPEN) and previously led the Capabilities in Academic Policy Engagement (CAPE) project.
Nicky has published on policy-research fellowships, sharing insights on knowledge exchange between policymakers and researchers. She formerly served as Head of Public Engagement at the University of Cambridge, managing the Cambridge Science Festival and founding the Cambridge Festival of Ideas and Open Cambridge programmes. She was Chair of Trustees at Cambridge Junction (2015–2023).
Nicky holds an MA in History and an MPhil in Social Anthropology from Cambridge, an MSc in Science and Society from the Open University, and is a Life Member, High Table, Newnham College.
