
Yannik Sassmann
Yannik Sassmann is a seasoned professional at the intersection of international development cooperation, data science, and public policy. He currently serves as a Data Scientist and Senior Policy Officer at the Data and AI Lab of Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). In this role, he focuses on modernizing public administration by developing innovative data and AI solutions, building essential infrastructure, delivering skills training, and providing strategic policy advice. As project manager of NegotiateCOP, an open Digital Public Good, he works to level the playing field in international climate negotiations by improving access to critical information for all delegations. Additionally, he leads the Data2Policy project, which fosters evidence-based and data-informed policymaking in the Global South, including the creation of the Data2Policy Navigator. His professional journey spans government, multilateral organizations, such as the UN or OECD, bilateral development agencies, and management consulting. His work is driven by a commitment to leveraging data, AI and evidence to promote inclusive, transparent, and outcome-oriented decision-making for global sustainable development.
